During today's Nintendo Direct, there was a bit of news regarding the Wii U that may have been lost under the flood of Zelda, Yoshi and Mario announcements. That was the news about two system updates coming to the system, one in spring and one in summer this year. According to Satoru Iwata, these updates will fix two main problems the Wii U was having.
These two problems both are due to loading times; software takes a while to open, and it also takes the Wii U a significant amount of time to return to the home menu. Nintendo plans on these problems being fixed via the two updates, so we should be experiencing faster loading times as soon as spring.
